This session begins with the cleaning operation i.e. the removal of stains from furniture and unwanted patinas that disfigure the beauty.
First of all it is important to establish what kind of finish has been done on the artifact and then clean it with a suitable product, for example, if the finish is wax, all that is needed is to prepare a mixture of turpentine and alcohol and, with a soft cotton swab, wipe the piece gently.
The cleaning process should be finished with a coat of beeswax paste, then the polishing is done with a soft dry cloth. If the object is finished with shellac then a product like that used to polish cars is needed, possibly with silicone, and it is used to soak a cotton pad which is rubbed gently on the article in a circular motion, then polish with a cloth dry.
Finally, if the finish is done with synthetic products, it is sufficient to wipe the piece with a pad soaked in a mixture of turpentine and a little alcohol, then polish with a dry, soft cloth.
IMPORTANT! DO NOT FORGET: Always make sure that the product is compatible with the finish. It should be tested on a hidden part of the object, to avoid ruining the finish in the event there is some unexpected reaction with the paint to be cleaned.
